The main goal of the Molecular Astrophysics Group (MAG) of the IFF-CSIC, is to understand the complex physics and chemistry in circumstellar and interstellar environments, from a multi and inter-disciplinary approach, that involve Astrophysics, theoretical and experimental Chemical Physics, laboratory experiments in vacuum conditions, Material Science and astronomical instrumentation for ground and space observatories.

These astrophysical environments are mostly governed by molecules in the gas-phase and dust grains, and are completely different from the terrestrial conditions. Our final goal is to understand how stars and planets are formed.

The group is involved in highly competitive national and international research projects as well as worlwide collaborations. In fact, the group has been awarded a major ERC-Synergy-Grant under FP7 as coordinators (Gas and Dust from the Stars to the Laboratory: Exploring the NanoCosmos – NANOCOSMOS –01/08/2014 – 31/07/2021), a COST action supported by H2020 as group leaders (Our Astrochemical history) and several national projects. Previously, a major national project, Consolider-Ingenio ASTROMOL (Molecular Astrophysics: the Herschel and ALMA Era), was awarded to our group (2009-2016), under the coordination of Prof. José Cernicharo and team leader Dr. Octavio Roncero.
